FAQ
Q1: Is PCP (potassium cetyl phosphate) safe?
A1: The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel has reviewed the concentration of the ingredient used in marketed products is 0.5-1% for rinses and 0.05-8.3% for residences, and concluded that the ingredient is safe for use in cosmetic products under the current conditions of use, when the formulation is non-irritating.
Q2: How PCP is used in formulations?
A2: The PCP is added to the molten oil phase at 85-90 °C and dispersed with moderate stirring. The aqueous phase is preheated to 75-85 °C and added slowly with gentle stirring while the mixture is cooled in the usual way. Prolonged high shear stirring should be avoided to prevent viscosity loss. Check pH and water content and correct if necessary. Use distilled or deionized water.
